Wes’s eyes flickered to me as he walked down the aisle to take his position next to his brother, Andrew. He looked hot as sin in a tailored suit and I wished, more than ever, that I could hate him. Seeing him still got me so excited. Even after everything he’d done. Just knowing that I was going to see him today made me feel like some kind of fucking schoolgirl.

A shaky old voice from behind me made my ears perk up. “I heard he’s queer now.”

I looked back to see a shriveled old prune that I recognized as Wes’s Great Aunt Whatser-Whatever. She probably busted her hearing aid and had no idea how loud she was talking.

“Shacking up with some gay tart from Arizona.”

Her equally ancient friend looked at her in shock as she finished. I turned to the two old ladies with a boiling rage that I had no business bringing to a wedding and spat, “He was queer long before he ever met that tart.”

I grit my teeth as I sat back in my chair. It was bad enough I had to see him being happy with someone else, but could they at least fuck a little quieter? I’d actually heard them from my room down the hall the night before. I wished, for the millionth time, that I’d brought my flask, but it was probably for the best that I hadn’t. I couldn’t promise what kind of person I would be when it came out.

I couldn’t keep my eyes off him, no matter how much it hurt to see that happy smile plastered across his face. Even as every eye was on the gorgeous bride in her glowing white dress, my eyes were still fixed on him. He was just the man I had never been able to look away from.

My eyes stung and swore at myself for being such a sentimental pussy. Should have brought that flask. I needed something to dull this pain or I was going to snap. I hated myself just for feeling anything about him to begin with.

The reception was in an old barn on Wes and Andrew’s parents property. It was the kind of wedding that they tried to make look cheap by decorating with burlap and random old crap, but actually cost a buttload. I guess if you’re feeding two hundred people and getting them drunk, it’s going to cost a buttload no matter whether it’s in a barn or fucking Buckingham Palace.

I made a beeline for the bar and ordered a bourbon. I spotted the tart across the room and swallowed back the bourbon in two huge gulps. Of course he had to show up looking like he’d just been fucked. I ordered another drink. It fucking sucked that they had turned me into such a bitter cunt. The barn felt hotter than hell and I had to get some fucking air. I headed for the door at the back, the one that Wes and I used to sneak through…
